A Surreal Labor

A healthy baby and a completely surreal labor. We got in
around 6 for a seven A.M. induction.
It took forever to set up, but when they finally had the Pitocin drip going it
was 8:10 AM, five minutes before the
arrival of our OB/GYN. Coasting right up to 9:00
AM
, the OB/GYN broke my wife?s water to try to see some activity. A
mere four centimeters dilation and my wife still wasn?t in real labor as we
chuckled over the stupidity of Saved by the Bell,
College Edition. The Surreal began to happen while I ate breakfast.

Eager Anticipation

This will be a light posting weekend. This morning I?m in the hospital watching my daughter enter into the world. God willing, I?ll post baby-stats later in the day (if I?m up to it). So I?ll claim the RLTB card for the weekend. But come back Monday when I have guest blogger Pastor Russ, a Christian brother I met over at Tim’s site, who is going to be working on a Non-Calvinist series called TULIPS. His Monday post will focus on his view on Total Depravity. Can you say, ?whetted appetite??

Induction Day

This post has nothing to do with deduction versus induction. If you
will, it’s a prayer request as well as the anxious anticipation of a
man who knows that Friday is the day where labor will be induced.

I have to make some sort of amends for my post regarding the
tinted glasses on Ephesians. If anything, the humor sparked some serious
considerations on Ephesians chapter 2?one of which spurred by my brother in
Christ, Doug from Coffeeswirls. Together we embark on a look at Ephesians 2,
not to spark debate, but merely in an effort of learning and mutual
edification. Perhaps this will count as penance for my humor?mia culpa, mia
culpa, mia maxima culpa
.

Big deal, right? I’ve just illustrated the comparisons and
contrasts in the different movements in the book of Romans—what’s the big deal.
I mean, sure it all winds up proving (somewhat) interesting and I had some pretty
architectural illustration as well as a pic of Beethoven’s ninth—but what does
it matter? Rey, are you saying the verses in Romans have no value when they’re on their own?

XVII. Romans: A Peek at Mirkwood

Let’s take a lesson from Mr. Bilbo Baggins when his company
was wandering around old Mirkwood. That little hobbit screwed up his courage
and scrambled up one of those dark trees to have a look about—seeing where they
were, where they had come from and hopefully where they were going. Trudging
along the path, the party might’ve lost focus of the point of the trip just the
fact that they were getting nowhere fast. So, at this point in our study, it
would perhaps be beneficial to take a look at where we are in the book of
Romans and simultaneously study some similarities in the lay of the land and
some differences. Perhaps we might even find out where we’re going.

TULIP

TULIP - Totally Unprepared to Link to a New Internet Post
Not finished with a couple of articles yet, and
I’ve been running around quite a bit. Looks like we may be inducing my wife
this coming Friday since contractions are a minute apart and we don?t know when
this is going to happen?so we?re getting a jump on it. Praise the Lord, it?s
only like 2 days before her due date and He?s been good in keeping the baby and
my wife healthy. For your reading pleasure, here are several links to
non-Calvinist articles. I?ve linked to the counterpoint quite a bit on this
site, so allow me:

Mary, Moms and Mayhem

I thought of it for mother?s day, I really did. "Just a look
at the mother?s in the New Testament" I said one day. Then I thought about Mary (Miriam actually) and started
doing a study on all the Mary?s  in the New Testament (which some
folk like to confuse). But I’m still in the middle of my Romans series and this recent post is killer rough,
while starting to think about Ephesians and worrying about Elisha and Elijah or
just when am I going to finish up Daniel or post something about Wives or get back on dueling with dead men?then I
decided, that I?m nuts. So I?ll post another history of study notes so that you
can take it up and do something with it, which I can not.

Apple Advice

Project you don’t start at 12:05AM:
Disassembling an Apple Dual USB ibook to find out if you can get the cd-rom
working again. You. Just. Don’t.

On the plus side: If you need a 1.4mm bit for a power drill you can
pick up those stinky little screwdriver sets from the 99cents store,
rip them apart and use the screw heads in your drill. Perfect for
computers.

Tinted Glasses on Eph 2:8,9

Speaking of languages, here’s a question: how do different believers read Eph 2:8 an 9? Or, how do you lose all your readers in one fell swoop?

Speaking Their Language

“Habona-Grits Habona-Hits”. Not Hebrew. My son’s name for this large pipe-like
contraption which is nestled in the corner of our co-op’s garage. For
the longest I didn’t have the foggiest clue why he would start singing
those words when we went down there but when I finally figured out what
Ha-BAH-na GRITS – Ha-BAH-na-HITS was I was still puzzled.
