At this point in
history, Israel
was a redeemed people ({{Ex 15:25}}). Slavery’s chains had been broken, and their foes
overwhelmed in the waters of the Red Sea. They
were led into a new and living way, which God had opened for them through the
place of death. Then they sang praises to God for so great a deliverance. After
three days’ journey, however, without finding water, they came to Marah, where
there was water; but so bitter they could not drink it. There are a few lessons
we may learn from this.

Here’s some notes from my studies on Genesis. They are in no way
fleshed out but I put them up in an effort to update them as I go
along. That being said, the HTML may be a bit fuzzy and there may be
other posts that come out added to this. It will not preempt my Romans
series but it will reinforce some of the things I’ll be saying when I
get to Romans 14.

Comparing notes on those two surveys I had up, I think
anyone can draw some fairly interesting conclusions albeit unsurprising
ones. So let’s talk through the polls and walk through my wandering
mind.

It is very instructive to note in the Scriptures the
engagements or circumstances which brought forth worship from believing men or
women. The attractiveness of divine worship, and the variety of events which
stirred that worship are both inspiring and informative.

“Mary and Joseph were strong and didn’t have to give in to
their human urges.” said my friend some time ago when we were talking about
Mary’s supposed perpetual virginity. What struck me about this thought was that
it drew an ethical line without meaning to. Is it right, though?

No matter where you are in the surrounding boroughs, as long
as you have a good enough view of Manhattan, you
should be able to see the memorial lights of the Twin Towers
this weekend. Bright powerful lights, placed parallel to each other, aiming
their luminance skyward so that anyone passing around the City on the highways
can look and see those lights and remember what happened on Tuesday, September
11, 2001.

There is no proper ground of worship except that the object of worship
have divine attributes. It is because the Lord Jesus is a divine
person, the Second Person of the Triune God and “God manifest in the
flesh,” that He is given and receives worship. His incarnation is set
forth in Scripture with crystal clearness and preeminence, because if
He is not truly man then His history is a myth; and if He be not God,
to worship Him is idolatry. For Him to receive worship is a robbery of
that glory which alone is due to God. That is why His deity and His
proper manhood are so clearly displayed in the Scriptures, why we find
both men and angels giving Him worship, and we find Him receiving that
worship.

Is surpassing the righteousness of the Pharisees all that hard ({{Matt
5:20}})? A group of conniving murderers who bribe people to get what
they want? No problem, right?

Most of the time, I don’t add anything to the conversations regarding
disasters. I don’t think my small voice can really add to what’s
already being said. In all honesty, I often feel disconnected from
these disasters or wars (etc.) and wind up not dwelling on them much.
Daniel Schorr’s editorial got to me though—not that he said anything
smart, but rather that he asked the old question “Why do bad things
happen?” while using it cast intelligent design in a bad light. You can
look at
Abednego’s post regarding the argument, which I’m not dealing
with. Mostly, I’m thinking about the bad things and sharing why I think
they happen.

I’ve never seen the Brethren in such a state of red alert. I would
often leave these conferences are deep in teaching and my heart warmed
by the devotions regarding the glory of Christ. This time I left with
all that and a convicting burden as well.
