We Christians like to get into debates that there really is
no answer to. And we get into a huge huff about it too. One old debate was the
one about Angels and Pin points (not pin heads as is often cited although it
does result in a certain amount of pin-headishness). I found a few articles:
one that
confirmed that there was some wacky discussions during the medieval
period (though this one may not have been one of them), one that offers a
methodology to answer the question and one (here’s the link and it’s also in
the read more) that actually mathematically counted how many Angels can dance
on the point of a pin.

Keep brother Tim in your
prayers. He had a form of skin infection while on the road anway from friends and family but the Lord stood close.

When looking at John 3:14-16 I’ve encountered three major
views which expand, restrict or flatten the text. The labels which I will be
using are placed in an effort to categorize the interpretation not to refer to
any of them pejoratively. Note that there may be some intermingling of these categories
but this post isn’t concerned with that. Neither is this post concerned with
any theological framework that may be influencing the interpretation. My sole
purpose is to see if either of the interpretations handles the material
correctly and if it supports the subsequent thesis.

Lawn work stinks. I enjoyed it the first few weeks in our new home; then I bore with it. Now it’s overwhelming. I’ve fought bugs, beetles and brown patches and now I’m ankle deep in the process of figuring out what a weed is: especially when they flower. They’re just so darn pretty. How am I supposed to tell what a real flower is if weeds have just as pretty flowers? I’ll get to nature’s theological (ecclesiological I guess) lesson after I explain myself a bit.

Samurai (bushi), Ancient Japan’s military elite, would
rather die in battle than get caught and bring dishonor to their master. In
some cases, this death would come by their own sword by performing seppuku, a
ritual suicide by means of cutting the abdomen not reserved for the Battlefield
but not restricted from it either. The Samurai, while following the Bushido, lead
a life of respect, honor, loyalty and ethical conduct so falling on their sword
was a sign of extreme honor. Or so they said. They were people after all and
sometimes people get funny.

What am I saying then: Is the Law actually sin? Are they equal?
No, come on now—of course not. I wouldn’t have known what I was doing was wrong
if it wasn’t for the Law telling me it was wrong. I wouldn’t have known that
coveting was specifically wrong until the Law told me I wasn’t to do it.
Therefore I knew: Coveting is Wrong.

I don’t usually like dramatized audio Bibles. I like to follow the text and picture it in my head—be it the narrative, the poetry or the argument. But when I came across this upcoming audio Bible (HT:
Lingamesh) I got absurdly excited. Samuel Jackson. Denzel Washington. Eartha Kitt! Some folk will raise the banner and call summon the jihad—it’s inevitable. Personally,
I’m dying to hear it. Here’s the
full cast (PDF) and here’s an audio
link.
