Prayer Monday: Paul

Barring my faulty memory (and if I’m not lazy) I want to post prayers on Monday from all over Church History and then throughout the modern day, and then my own. This one comes from Paul (who surely added the amen to Epaphras): a compilation of his prayers to the Church of Ephesus and Colossae (Eph 1:16-20; Col 1, 4:12, 18)

God and Father of my Lord Jesus Christ, I thank you for the faith of these people and pray that you give them a spirit of wisdom and a revelation in the knowledge of the Son.

As I thank you for their already opened eyes, I pray that the eyes of their hearts may be enlightened so that they may know what is the hope of your calling; what are the riches of the glory of Your inheritance in the saints; what is the surpassing greatness of Your power toward us who believe which is in accordance with the working of the strength of your awesome might as evidenced in Christ when you raised Him from the dead and seated Him at your right hand in the heavenly places.

I pray that they may be filled with the knowledge of your will, in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that they would walk in a manner worthy of Your Son, our Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of You; strengthened in all power according to your glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; while they joyously give thanks to You who have qualified us all to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light.

I pray that they may stand perfect before you and fully assured in your complete will.

At the same time, I pray that you will open to us a door for your word, so that we may speak forth the mystery of Christ, your Son, for which I have been imprisoned. I pray that I may make it clear in the way I should speak.

I, Paul, pray this prayer with my own mouth; remember my chains oh Lord and thanks for your grace.
