Pentecost In A New Key by Phil James

She could see the threatening glow gathering above the flat horizon in the East. The Hammer was rising.

Everyone else in the village had hidden themselves away- just as The Boundaries stipulated. The young mother was trying, but raising two young children alone was not easy, and getting them to move without violating the writings seemed impossible. They were always in danger of transgressing, and so, often in danger of dying. Every morning’s Heatrise was one of those times.

“Come on. Come on… but don’t hurry. Don’t….,” her voice grew loud in exasperation, but she caught herself and glanced around. Little children wanted to run. It seemed a perverse joke to give them desires that would only kill them.

Codex Sinaiticus Online

I don’t know which blog(s) I’ve seen this on or it might have been Theologica but the Codex Sinaiticus is online. You have to love how technology makes things accessible to everyone. This might not help me much now since my greek is awful and approaching that of an infant but this is very nice.

Christian Carnival at Parableman

Christian Carnival is currently up at Jeremy’s.

In case you’re not familiar with the Christian Carnival, it’s a weekly collection of blog posts written by Christians from a Christian perspective (including Orthodox, Roman Catholic, and Protestant Christianity). For more information, you can look at the instructions for participation in the Christian Carnival, the list of previous Christian Carnivals (although it hasn’t been update in a while), and the most recent list of scheduled hosts for future weeks. -Jeremy

Tim Challies is A Criminal

I’m way too unmotivated to be jealous of the fame of other bloggers yet I find myself turning a dark eye in the direction of Tim Challies.

Early in 2002 The Bible Archive launched. Since I didn’t start full-swing posting until sometime later that year (perhaps even early the next) and really didn’t define the site as a blog until late 2003/early 2004 I was relegated to a third-tier blog (of course, this is what I tell myself).

sorting_hat.jpg

Oh you may not think me pretty,
But don’t judge on what you see,
I’ll eat myself if you can find
A smarter hat than me.
You can keep your bowlers black,
Your top hats sleek and tall,
For I’m the Hogwarts Sorting Hat
And I can cap them all.
There’s nothing hidden in your head
The Sorting Hat can’t see,
So try me on and I will tell you
Where you ought to be.

You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart;
You might belong in Hufflepuff,
Where they are just and loyal,
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true
And unafraid of toil;
Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
if you’ve a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind;
Or perhaps in Slytherin
You’ll make your real friends,
Those cunning folks use any means
To achieve their ends.

So put me on! Don’t be afraid!
And don’t get in a flap!
You’re in safe hands (though I have none)
For I’m a Thinking Cap!

Why You’re Here

You came from the Bible Archive Mag-Site and you are dying to say something: be it a correction, a refutation, an agreement or take up the call to storm my castle. Either way, feel free to voice your opinion and if you are a brother or sister in Christ realize that I am weak and may need some patience.

Rey’s Wacky Comments Section

My commenting system has always been a bit of a hassle. I downloaded a free one and it was a spam magnet that often crashed my server. I bought one and the guy stopped doing updates to it—and it never really worked. I am currently testing one and I have to keep my eyes on the settings in the backend. So if you see a strange spinning wheel after you comment, wait five seconds then refresh the page to see if your comment is there. If it’s not—drop me an email. I would much appreciate it. Thank you kindly!

Say It With Me: Propitiation

Rebecca has a post looking at the word propitiation, its usage and a challenge to figure out another word that can fit in its place. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your bend in modern bible translations) I’m all for the actual word propitiation but I also readily admit that there might be a shift of usage depending on the Biblical author. Paul might be making an allusion to the OT mercy seat and John may be referring to what the mercy seat offering accomplished in a general sense. So whereas Paul might be saying "God publicly (instead of behind a veil) revealed the place where God’s wrath was turned away and satisfied in the person of His Son on the cross" John would be saying "Jesus Christ is the atoning sacrifice for the world, but for us believers especially."

Be that as it may, I’ll play and try to update (if not dumb down) the actual word.

Lingamish and The Bible Puzzlers

Lingamish moved to a new address and is using the prettiness of wordpress. Show him some love since the spam-ware is going to give him a headache. Anyway, he has an interesting concept about Bible Puzzlers. It’s sort of like a Biblical Studies Group Participation thing but focus more on Bible Study and Application and subsequent application. Check it out. (I aso recommended some of you for it).
