This particular discussion was after the healing of a lame
\nman on the Sabbath. The Jews sought to kill Him because He worked on the
\nSabbath and was making Himself equal to God.<\/p>\n

Jesus goes on to make several claims which build upon one
\nanother illustrating his actual equality with deity. This would mark Him as mad
\nbut He's already performed tremendous miracles before them. His statements aren't
\nleft empty, but he welcomes examination in light of the "witnesses". He makes
\nan appeal to evidence<\/strong>. I worked this post up, and only after Rebecca<\/a> pointed
\nout that Doug Groothius(Hat Tip: Evangelical Outpost<\/a>)  did it already (and admittedly, much better than I
\nhandled it: Jesus, Philosopher and Apologist. P6<\/em><\/a>) I feel compelled to submit
\nthe research but with that one caveat.<\/p>\n


The catalyst:<\/strong> A man healed on the Sabbath who was ill many
\nyears (5:1-16)
\nThe conclusion for doing His works (5:17)<\/p>\n

The problem:<\/strong>
\nA man Healing on the Sabbath (5:18)
\nA man is Calling God His Father (5:18)
\nA mere man is making Himself equal with God (5:18)<\/p>\n

Solution:<\/strong>
\nnot making a Man
\nmaking himself equal, but this Son of Man IS equal with God:<\/p>\n

The defense:<\/strong>
\nWhatever the Father does, the Son does 5:19, 20
\nThe Father gives life and the Song gives life as well 5:21
\nThe Father doesn't judge, the Son does 5:22
\nThe Son to be honored as the Father
\n 5:23
\nThe Father has life in Himself just as the Son has life 5:26
\nThe Father has given the Son authority because He is the Son
\nof Man 5:27
\nThe Son resurrects unto life or judgment 5:28-29<\/p>\n

The witnesses:<\/strong>
\nJohn the Baptist 5:34
\nThe works that Jesus does 5:36
\nThe Father whom they refuse to believe or hear 5:37, 38
\nThe Scriptures 5:39
\nMoses 5:45\n<\/p>\n
