Barring my faulty memory (and if I’m not lazy) I want to post prayers on Monday from all over Church History and then throughout the modern day, and then my own. This one comes from the Rev. Dick Kozelka<\/a> of the First Congregational Church of Minnesota for Memorial Day.<\/p>\n

Eternal God,
\nCreator of years, of centuries,
\nLord of whatever is beyond time,
\nMaker of all species and master of all history —
\nHow shall we speak to you
\nfrom our smallness and inconsequence?
\nExcept that you have called us to worship you
\nin spirit and in truth;
\nYou have dignified us with loves and loyalties;
\nYou have lifted us up with your lovingkindnesses.
\nTherefore we are bold to come before you without groveling
\n[though we sometimes feel that low<\/em>]
\nand without fear
\n[though we are often anxious<\/em>].
\nWe sing with spirit and pray with courage
\nbecause you have dignified us;
\nYou have redeemed us from the aimlessness
\nof things’ going meaninglessly well.
\nGod, lift the hearts of those
\nfor whom this holiday is not just diversion,
\nbut painful memory and continued deprivation.
\nBless those whose dear ones have died
\nneedlessly, wastefully [as it seems<\/em>]
\nin accident or misadventure.
\nWe remember with compassion those who have died
\nserving their countries
\nin the futility of combat.
\nThere is none of us but must come to bereavement and separation,
\nwhen all the answers we are offered
\nfail the question death asks of each of us.
\nWe believe that you will provide for us
\nas others have been provided with the fulfillment of
\n“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”<\/p>\n
