\n REDEMPTION
\n Sacrifice of the Payment
\n Being justified freely
\n by his grace through the
\n redemption<\/B> that is in Christ Jesus (Rom. 3:24).

\n owed Him? There are thousands of religious answers to that vital
\n question. However, the performance that God requires is already
\n performed?and by someone else. It was the death of Christ
\n Jesus which God viewed as redemptive: a sacrificial payment.<\/P>
\n
\n right price, one has freed, regained, or rescued something from
\n the power or control of another.
\n
\n At a simple level, to redeem something might involve redeeming
\n a coupon so the product will be released to you at the discount
\n price. At a higher level it might involve a ransom payment to
\n rescue someone held captive by another. Both involve the payment
\n of a price. Expressions like ?the price of his redemption?
\n and ?redemption money? explain the concept in the Scriptures.<\/P>
\n
\n deliverance out of it. Redemption is a contemporary need because
\n sinners are under sin?s dominion. They cannot be legally
\n released unto God from Satan?s domain without the legal
\n price being paid. And that price is death. From Adam onward,
\n God has demonstrated in sacrificing animals that death ?
\n not penance, bad luck, or religious rituals ? is the price
\n to be paid for sin. ?For the wages of sin is death,?
\n says Rom. 6:23.<\/P>
\n
\n one from their sins. Sweeping sin under the rug and ?letting
\n bygones be bygones? would show mercy but not justice. A
\n judge who releases a guilty criminal might have mercy but he
\n did not show legal justice to the victim, the victim?s family?or
\n the law.<\/P>
\n
\n justice? The answer is ?the redemption that is in Christ
\n Jesus.? Because God?s only Son was sinless, His sacrificial
\n death on the cross (via shedding of blood which is the life)
\n counts as the full and legal payment that sin requires in God?s
\n court.<\/P>
\n
\n who trusts God in Christ, can say with certainty:<\/B><\/P><\/p>\n\n
\n sins (Rom. 3:25).
\n b. I am saved from God?s wrath (Rom. 5:9).
\n c. I have peace with God (Rom. 5:1).
\n d. Christ?s one payment is all-sufficient: no future works
\n are necessary (Heb. 9:14, 10:12).
\n e. I now possess forgiveness of sins by redemption through His
\n blood (Eph. 1:7).
\n f. Sin, Satan or even God Himself can never take salvation from
\n me (Rom. 8:31-39).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
\n The good news of redemption
\n in
\n Christ Jesus is that it is history.
\n Therefore, it is final and secure.
\n <\/CENTER><\/P>
\n
\n It is completely untouchable by the present. For example, nothing
\n done in the present can change the history of the deaths of World
\n War II. We can learn from history but we cannot change it.<\/P>
\n
\n I trust in, not what I do today to cause it.<\/P>
\n
\n PROPITIATION
\n Satisfaction of the Payment
\n Whom [Jesus Christ] God
\n hath set forth to be a
\n propitiation<\/B> through faith in his blood…
\n (Rom 3:25a).
\n <\/CENTER><\/P>

\n is another. One might try to buy a new car for twenty dollars,
\n but the car will never be released ? for twenty dollars
\n is not the satisfactory payment.<\/P>

\n He smashes the windows, spray paints it pink, shreds the leather
\n seats and pours water in the engine. Are you angry? Do you have
\n the right to prosecute? What will it take to propitiate (satisfy)
\n you? Will candy do it? How about a pizza? Will a simple, ?I?m
\n sorry and I won?t do it again? be enough? Or will it
\n take full restitution by putting it back into mint condition?<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
\n He is ?angry with the wicked? (Psalm 7:11). Whatever
\n is offered to God for our sin must satisfy Him. He must accept
\n it for it is His wrath that must be abated. It doesn?t matter
\n if ?Christianity? is satisfied with the sacrifice of
\n Christ. It only matters if God accepts it as a real and valid
\n payment first.<\/P><\/p>\n
\n forth to be a propitiation.? It is not what God has set
\n forth but whom. God has not set forth rules, rituals, or religious
\n penances to satisfy Him, but the Person of His Son, the Lord
\n Jesus Christ. Isaiah 53:11 says, ?He shall see the travail
\n of his soul, and shall be satisfied.?<\/P>
\n
\n God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son<\/I> to be the
\n propitiation for our sins.?<\/P>
\n
\n to be a propitiation through faith in [by] his blood.? The
\n blood takes us not to the manger nor to the sermon on the mount,
\n but to the cross. It was here He made the necessary payment to
\n satisfy God the Father.<\/P>
\n

\n The mercy seat is the exact place in the OT temple where sacrificial
\n blood was sprinkled on Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) to satisfy
\n God?s claim against Israel?s sins for another year.<\/P><\/p>\n
\n be the high priest that would do the work for their forgiveness
\n of sins. And his work was not good deeds but ?he shall take
\n of the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it with his finger
\n upon the mercy seat [place of propitiation] eastward; and before
\n the mercy seat shall he sprinkle of the blood with his finger
\n seven times? (Lev. 16:14).<\/P><\/p>\n

\n that satisfied God. And as the high priest of old approached
\n the mercy seat with blood, so the risen Lord Jesus as High Priest
\n ascended once<\/I> into the holy place of heaven ?by His
\n own blood.? He obtained, not yearly redemption as in the
\n old way, but ?eternal redemption? (Heb. 9:12). Praise
\n Him! In Christ we have a mercy<\/I> seat!<\/P>
\n
\n to be a propitiation.? When a price is paid, what assures
\n you that it has been accepted so that you now own the product?
\n A receipt is your proof that the seller is truly satisfied. God
\n has graphically demonstrated that He has fully accepted His Son?s
\n sacrifice. He raised Him from the dead to His own right hand.
\n And that is our assurance that the payment of Christ is enough.
\n ?… He hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath
\n raised him from the dead? (Acts 17:31). If God is satisfied
\n with Christ?s payment ? are you?<\/P>
\n
\n is finished.? God surely believed the payment was full for
\n ?Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more? (Rom.
\n 6:9). It?s a satisfactory sacrifice.<\/P>
\n
\n Resurrection not only
\n says that
\n God has accepted Christ in His
\n death-payment ? but also that
\n there is nothing more required
\n for He now lives to die no more.

\n offered one<\/B> sacrifice for sins for ever<\/I>, sat down
\n on the right hand of God.? And He ?ever liveth?
\n there.<\/P>
\n
\n somebody re-sweeps the rug after you have just finished, it means
\n that he did not believe your work was good enough.<\/P>
\n

\n Scope of the Payment
\n “… His blood, to
\n declare his righteousness for the
\n remission of sins THAT ARE PAST, [afore time]
\n through the forbearance of God” (Rom 3:25b).

\n ?David committed adultery
\n and murder?both meriting death under the law. Yet he was
\n told upon confession that God hath ?put away thy sin: thou
\n shalt not die.? (2Sam. 12:13). On what basis did God transcend
\n His law and show righteous mercy to David? It was the coming
\n sacrifice of Christ that would indeed meet the demanded penalty
\n of death for him. No wonder David said, ?Blessed is the
\n man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.?<\/TD>
\n <\/TR>
\n <\/TABLE><\/CENTER><\/P>

\n by the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. Because of God?s
\n foreknowledge and forbearance, He applied Christ?s propitiatory
\n sacrifice to OT believers in advance. In the NT age He applies
\n the payment that Christ already made (Eph. 1:7). In both cases
\n it?s the same payment: Christ?s blood. He?s the
\n Savior of all the ages.<\/P>
\n <\/p>\n
\n a product.<\/em><\/p>\n
\n money is to be deposited in the future. David was forgiven by
\n credit.<\/P>
\n
\n money was already deposited. A believer today is forgiven by
\n debit.<\/P><\/BLOCKQUOTE>
\n
\n of having the product repossessed if the expected payment is
\n never made. However, the debit way gives joyful assurance for
\n the payment is already made.<\/P>
\n
\n AMNESTY
\n Strength of the Payment
\n “… God was in Christ,
\n reconciling the world
\n unto himself, NOT IMPUTING their trespasses
\n unto them …” (2 Cor 5:19).
\n <\/CENTER><\/P>
\n
\n of love, but it is efficacious: it has the power to take away
\n all of one?s sins from God?s record book ? forgiveness,
\n cleansing and remission.<\/P>
\n
\n of salvation.? In contrast to the coming ?day of the
\n Lord,? also known as the ?day of judgment,? we
\n are in a time period where God has declared a spiritual amnesty.<\/P>
\n
\n
\n men burned their draft cards and fled to Canada. The government
\n eventually declared an amnesty for a certain period of time.
\n During amnesty, a young man could come back and be reconciled
\n to his government and none of his crimes would be left on his
\n record book. All was gone, if he came back during that
\n time.<\/em><\/P>
\n <\/BLOCKQUOTE>
\n
\n cross, God is not counting (imputing) the sinner?s sin against
\n him. If the sinner will come back to God and be reconciled to
\n Him through the person and performance of Christ, God will forgive
\n rather than punish the sinner (2Cor. 5:18-21). This is amnesty
\n ? and love.<\/P>
\n
\n his Son, cleanseth us from all sin? (1John 1:7). There is
\n power in the blood.<\/P>
\n
\n already died. Its ministry is not propitiatory for God is already
\n satisfied. It?s not to grant forgiveness for the power of
\n Christ?s blood is what forgives. The church is told that
\n we have ?the ministry of reconciliation? (2Cor. 5:18).
\n We can confidently invite sinners to be reconciled to God knowing
\n that during amnesty, God will not hold their sin against them
\n because of Christ.<\/P>
\n
\n God is not looking
\n for peace
\n makers but peace takers.
\n <\/CENTER><\/P>
\n
\n sacrifice of His beloved Son. He does not ask that we do religious
\n penance to make peace with Him. He does ask that we trust Him
\n and take the peace that Jesus Christ the Lord has already made:
\n ?And, having made peace through the blood of his cross,
\n by him to reconcile all things unto himself… .? (Col.
\n 1:20).<\/P>
\n
<\/CENTER><\/P>
\n
\n God?s wrath is not just the Person of Jesus Christ but the
\n cross-performance of the Lord Jesus.<\/P>
\n
\n and yet not trust in
\n His redemption for sin,
\n is to not believe God?s gospel. <\/p>\n
