Provisions for Love and Holiness (John 14)

The Lord had just finished telling His disciples that they
are to love one another and that He?s leaving. Peter had asked where exactly
Jesus was going to which He answered that where He is going, Peter would not be
able to follow but he will come later. This opened some discussion on Peter?s
denial in contrast to his adamant statement that he would follow the Lord unto
death…but it also leaves the disciples with a ground shaking question. How
are they to love and work as the Lord loved and worked if He?s not there to
show them how when even Peter (who walked on water!) would deny the Lord (John 13:31-38)?

Feet Washing Type of Love (John 13)

It is the night of Jesus? betrayal and He sits in the
upper room with His disciples, partaking of the meal. He has not yet instituted
the Lord?s Supper and will do as much in a short while, but first He must deal
with some issues. One of which is how His disciples are to live after He?s
gone.

The Best Laid Plans

Hope I?m not squeezing the juice out this Ben-Haddad bit but here I am again. This time I?m taking a look at his planning. I mean, the guy?s mind was set. He had his undeniable proof that the Israelite God was a God of the mountains and He would surely be bested in the open plains. He fired his kings and hired military commanders. He set out against the Israelites in full force right after the thaw. All that planning and it just came shattering down when they came face to face with reality. This is a personal meandering musing kind of post so don?t expect too many quotes when I consider how the best laid plans just don?t always pan out.

Rey Fam Update

Thank God, my sister in Law is up in town taking care of my son and keeping an eye on my bed-ridden wife. Being put on bed-rest is not easy, and my wife?s sentence is surely wearing on her. This weekend I believe my mother in law will be coming up to stay indefinitely which will prove to be an infinite help. This family is great. They?re supportive without being critical. Evenhanded without being demanding. Involved without getting in the way. Perfect helpers, God bless them. My son is already showing the effects of some sort of renewed structure. The past couple of weeks had us running around so much that my son started acting up. Now, he?s back to his smiling, imaginative, occasionally moody, princess-loving self.

God of the Mountains and Plains

I recently wrote a silly argument using deductive methodoly and proof-texting to get the point across. Jeremy, always offering insight, pointed out how the argument could have easily been knocked out by John 4?true indeed. Meanwhile, thinking about mountains and such, I found myself drawn back to the Elijah series to look at the deductive faulty reasoning of the Syrians and how God proved better than their theology.
