What: Public Degradation Story

Historical narrative told in the first person, written by Nebuchadnezzar (4). If you will, it can even be his testimony (2-3). Then starting at verse 28 it is told in the 3 rd Person omniscient (presumably Daniel?s notes on the matter) but the first person view starts up again at verse 34.

When and Where:

We know that Nebuchadnezzar reigned (4), lost his power for 7 years (32) 1 year after his dream (29) and then was restored to full power (36).

Chapter 3: The Sovereign God who Delivers (from Men and Fire)

What: Public Defiance Story

Historical Narrative told in the 3 rd Person which may or may not have typological prophetic elements.

Where and When:

Babylon and the plains of Dura in the province of Babylon (2) some time after the dream, at least enough time to craft a huge golden image, but possibly even more time.

What: Personal Dreams Story

Historical Narrative with Prophetic Elements told in the 3 rd Person. Written in Hebrew until 2:4 where it says ?O king?? which is written in Aramaic ? gentile?s language.

Nebuchadnezzar?s 2nd Year (1) in Babylon

Historical Narrative Told in the third person omniscient and written in Hebrew

Where and When:

3 rd Year of reign of Jehoiakim (born Eliakim 2 Ki 23:24 and son of Josiah ; Made king by Pharaoh Neco 2 Kin 23:24; gave all the silver and gold to Pharaoh Neco a his command and taxed the people of the land 2 Ki 23:25; became king at 25 and reigned 11 years in Jerusalem, 2 Kin 23:36; He did evil in the sight of the Lord 2 Chr 36:5; according to what his fathers had done 2 Ki 23:37; Nebuchadnezzar goes up against Pharaoh Neco at Carchemish Jer 46:1-2 and wins; Nebuchadnezzar makes Jehoiakim his servant for three years 2 Ki 24:1; Led a rebellion against Neb 2 Kin 24:1; Nebuchadnezzar took him away bound in chains to Babylon 2 Chr 36:6; God sent Chaldeans, Arameans, bands of Moabites and Ammonites against Judah to destroy it 2 Ki 24:2; Jehoiachin becomes king in his father?s place 2 Ch 36:8, 2 Ki 24:5-6; King of Egypt didn?t come out again because of Babylon 2 Ki 24:7 )
