Peace is order, tranquility, secure rest, and a friendly relationship free of hostility and full of harmony. That’s wonderful. The Bible describes God as the God of peace (1 Thes 5:23; Heb 13:20). That is not to say that He is a God OVER peace but that He himself IS the definitive model and ultimate reality of peace.
- God declares peace by the death of Jesus and justification by faith (Rom 5:1; 1 John 4:10)
- The Father, Son and Holy Spirit together multiply peace in His people (1 Pet 1:2; 2 Pet 1:2)
These passages point to His peace, but Scripture is also explicit on the benefits of this amazing peace.
- We can cast all our cares on Him (1 Pet 5:7)
- We don’t need to worry but rather put it all in God’s hands (1 Pet 5:7)
- We can bask in his secure love (Rom 8:38-39)
All of this reminds us that when we lean on God, we truly revel in a peace that passes all possible understanding (Phil 4:7)
When peace like a river, attendeth my way.
When sorrows like sea billows roll.
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say
It is well, it is well with my soul.
