The ‘Jesus the Logician’ Project:John 5:18-47

This particular discussion was after the healing of a lame
man on the Sabbath. The Jews sought to kill Him because He worked on the
Sabbath and was making Himself equal to God.

Jesus goes on to make several claims which build upon one
another illustrating his actual equality with deity. This would mark Him as mad
but He's already performed tremendous miracles before them. His statements aren't
left empty, but he welcomes examination in light of the "witnesses". He makes
an appeal to evidence. I worked this post up, and only after Rebecca pointed
out that Doug Groothius(Hat Tip: Evangelical Outpost)  did it already (and admittedly, much better than I
handled it: Jesus, Philosopher and Apologist. P6) I feel compelled to submit
the research but with that one caveat.

The catalyst: A man healed on the Sabbath who was ill many
years (5:1-16)
The conclusion for doing His works (5:17)

The problem:
A man Healing on the Sabbath (5:18)
A man is Calling God His Father (5:18)
A mere man is making Himself equal with God (5:18)

Solution:
not making a Man
making himself equal, but this Son of Man IS equal with God:

The defense:
Whatever the Father does, the Son does 5:19, 20
The Father gives life and the Song gives life as well 5:21
The Father doesn't judge, the Son does 5:22
The Son to be honored as the Father
5:23
The Father has life in Himself just as the Son has life 5:26
The Father has given the Son authority because He is the Son
of Man 5:27
The Son resurrects unto life or judgment 5:28-29

The witnesses:
John the Baptist 5:34
The works that Jesus does 5:36
The Father whom they refuse to believe or hear 5:37, 38
The Scriptures 5:39
Moses 5:45
