Knowing that Our Triune God is Kind

To be kind is to act in a merciful way that is reflective of actual tenderness and concerned for another. We understand that God is love, gracious, and truth but Scripture shows that he is kind.

  • When God’s kindness was revealed, so was his philanthropic love (Titu 3:5)
  • God’s kindness gives room for people to repent (Rom 2:4)

This tender-concern is offered to us with actions that reflect His kindness.

  • God’s kindness was evidenced in His showing believers mercy (Rom 11:22)
  • God’s kindness was evidenced in the surpassing riches tied to the offering of Jesus on our behalf (Eph 2:7)
  • The kindness of God our savior (Titus 3:4) offered through the renewing work of the Holy Spirit (Tit 3:5) made available by Jesus Christ (Tit 3:6)

He saw me ruined by the fall, Yet loved me notwithstanding all;

He saved me from my lost estate, His lovingkindness oh, how great!

Lovingkindness, loving kindness! His lovingkindness oh, how great!

Knowing that Our Triune God is Graciously Grace Filled

In one sense, to be grace-filled means that God is favorably disposed. But it is so much bigger. God’s grace or favor is free, more than enough, and overwhelming. If you put problems, pain, suffering and death on one end of a scale, God’s grace is infinitely above, over and beyond (Romans 5:15-16)!

  • God’s overwhelming grace is decided and sourced in the Father (Ephesians 1:2-18)
  • God’s outstanding graciousness is worked out and multiplied through the Son (John 1:17)
  • God’s otherworldly grace is eternally perfecting and sanctifying by the Holy Spirit of Grace (Heb. 10:29)

No matter what “direction” we look at Him, God, in all three persons, is graciously grace-filled—especially towards us who can’t earn this eternal hope (Eph 2:8).

Wonderful the matchless grace of Jesus,

Deeper than the mighty rolling sea

Higher than the mountain, sparkling like a fountain, all sufficient Grace for even me

Broader than the scope of my transgressions

Greater far than all my sin and shame

Magnify the precious name of Jesus, praise His name!

Knowing that Our Triune God is Peace

Peace is order, tranquility, secure rest, and a friendly relationship free of hostility and full of harmony. That’s wonderful. The Bible describes God as the God of peace (1 Thes 5:23; Heb 13:20). That is not to say that He is a God OVER peace but that He himself IS the definitive model and ultimate reality of peace.

  • God declares peace by the death of Jesus and justification by faith (Rom 5:1; 1 John 4:10)
  • The Father, Son and Holy Spirit together multiply peace in His people (1 Pet 1:2; 2 Pet 1:2)

These passages point to His peace, but Scripture is also explicit on the benefits of this amazing peace.

  • We can cast all our cares on Him (1 Pet 5:7)
  • We don’t need to worry but rather put it all in God’s hands (1 Pet 5:7)
  • We can bask in his secure love (Rom 8:38-39)

All of this reminds us that when we lean on God, we truly revel in a peace that passes all possible understanding (Phil 4:7)

When peace like a river, attendeth my way.

When sorrows like sea billows roll.

Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say

It is well, it is well with my soul.

Knowing that Our Triune God is Patient

Love is patient (1 Cor 13:4). We also know that God is love. God, therefore, won’t immediately jump to anger in the face of rebellion. But God goes wants us to know the connection: He is patient.

  • The Lord is slow to anger (Exodus 34:6) and abundant in love (Num 14:18)
  • God wants to forgive (Jeremiah 9:17) which is why he is slow in anger (Ps 86:16)
  • The Holy Spirit’s fruit includes patience (Gal 5:22)
  • The Lord doesn’t want any to perish (2 Peter 3:9) so He takes his time with judgment.
  • God has great patience (Rom 2:4) enduring rebellion from sinners (Rom 9:22)
  • Paul, said that Christ Jesus saved Paul to display his perfect patience (1 Tim 1:15-16)

We should be so thankful! It is only because of His great patience, in all three divine persons, that we haven’t been wiped out and condemned! It is only because of this long-suffering love that God hasn’t poured out His wrath on us! It is because of His great patience, that the Lord Jesus waits before returning in judgment! Praise the Lord for his compassion and mercy: God is patient with us!

Knowing that Our Triune God is Just

One of the earliest questions in the bible is if the Judge of the Earth is just? This is in the context of bad things possibly about to happen to good people. The answer is repeated throughout all of Scripture. God, in all three persons, is just.

  • God is impartial (Acts 10:34) and not unjust (Heb 6:10) never showing favoritism (Col 3:25)
  • The Son is just (righteous) giving himself for the unjust (1 Pet 3:18)
  • The Holy Spirit convicts the world of judgment (John 16:8, 11)

Christ wonderfully points out the extent of God’s justice. The Father is just in that he renders the authority to judge men to a man: the Son who came as a man! (John 5:22). Therefore, says the Holy Spirit through Paul, no one can bring a charge against God’s people because God is the one who declares who is just. And no one can condemn Christ’s people because Christ is the one who justly intercedes for his people.

This gives us hope that God will rightly deal with all the injustices of the past. Praise the Lord: God is just!
