My E-Book On Immigration For You: Free

[singlepic id=1 w=300 h= float=]It’s pithy, it’s mostly blog posts converted into book format, the design is thrown together, and the author (me) stinks. Either way, I decided to compile all of my Illegal Immigration and American Christianity’s Respons series into an e-book that you can download and print out or read on anything that allows you to read pdfs. I’ve also uploaded it to Scribd so that you can view it in your browser with a mini window (below).

The Schooling Series

I did a series of posts that dealt with home schooling and I wanted a single location to put the posts. The forth post (Who is a Person) is more about the imago dei than schooling but it, correlated.

  1. 5 Stupid Reasons to Opt-Out of Home School
  2. 5 Sometimes Wrongheaded Reasons to Home school
  3. The 10 Reasons Why We Home School
  4. Who Is A Person?
  5. What is the Purpose of Schooling
  6. My Homeschooling site (though it basically duplicates content)

What Is The Point of Schooling?

In my rabid posts on home schooling (here, here and here) I kept repeating that such and such ignores the point of schooling. But, poor writer that I am, I allowed the readers to wallow in their presuppositions without ever explaining what I meant by that term. So what is the point of schooling anyway?

Why I Think Our Words Matter

Words convey information: that’s important to me.

Words, strung together in sentences are information vehicles driving thought from one person (me) to another (reader): that’s important to me. The nature of verbal communication is to transfer the information via the ether, with syllables of sound; if there are no ears to hear, the words disappear. The communication falters. If words are passed orally to another, the communication is received but the information is now reformulated through another vehicle.

Written communication addresses the weakness of oral communication.

Jesus the Logician Backup

Nervous because it looks like the page is getting hacked and in the hopes of making sure I keep these excellent links, I am backing up Joe Carter’s Jesus the Logician project here at the Bible Archive. Mind you this is not the repository for said articles.  If you have new submissions you can send them to Joe Carter.  It was sparked by Dallas Willard’s article here (with a pdf here). The abstract from said article is as follows with the backup of Joe Carter’s collection from the blogosphere after the jump:

ABSTRACT: In understanding how discipleship to Jesus Christ works, a major issue is how he automatically presents himself to our minds. It is characteristic of most 20th century Christians that he does not automatically come to mind as one of great intellectual power: as Lord of universities and research institutes, of the creative disciplines and scholarship. The Gospel accounts of how he actually worked, however, challenge this intellectually marginal image of him and help us to see him at home in the best of academic and scholarly settings of today, where many of us are called to be his apprentices.
